What is it?
Recovery & Renewal™ is specialized hands-on treatment designed for the unique physical and lymphatic needs that can follow breast and chest surgery. Rather than traditional massage, sessions combine Manual Lymphatic Drainage with skilled manual therapy selected for each patient’s surgical history, stage of recovery, symptoms, and tissue presentation.
Treatment may address swelling and lymphatic disruption, scar tissue and fibrosis, cording, restricted mobility, tissue tightness, altered sensation, and other post-surgical changes. Care can begin during surgical recovery and continue through reconstruction, revisions, and long-term survivorship.
Recovery & Renewal™ is designed to complement care from your medical and rehabilitation team and can provide continued hands-on support after formal rehabilitation or active medical treatment has ended.
Who is Recovery & Renewal for?
Recovery & Renewal™ is designed for patients preparing for or recovering from breast cancer surgery, breast reconstruction, or other breast and chest procedures. This may include mastectomy, lumpectomy, sentinel lymph node biopsy or axillary lymph node dissection, tissue expanders, implant reconstruction, DIEP or other flap reconstruction, aesthetic flat closure, and revision procedures.

Recovery does not have an expiration date. Patients may begin care shortly after surgery when medically appropriate, during reconstruction, or months to years later when persistent or newly recognized concerns remain.

Recovery & Renewal™ brings lymphatic care and skilled manual therapy together in one treatment, rather than treating each concern in isolation. Our therapists providing this care are Certified Lymphedema Therapists and Licensed Massage Therapists with advanced training in oncology massage and breast cancer-specific care.
This combination allows treatment to consider the lymphatic system, surgical and scar-related tissue changes, mobility, and the nervous system together. Sessions are adapted to the patient in front of us, including their surgical history, reconstruction, current symptoms, precautions, and where they are in recovery. ​Our team is specially trained to support clients navigating more complex post-surgical presentations, including post-mastectomy pain syndrome, Iron Bra Syndrome, capsular contracture, persistent swelling, dense or restrictive scar tissue, and heightened nerve sensitivity. This work requires a higher level of clinical awareness, precision, and adaptability than general massage therapy.

What to expect
Every Recovery & Renewal™ appointment begins with a review of your surgical history, current symptoms, stage of recovery, and any changes since your last visit. Treatment is then tailored to what your body needs that day.
Hands-on care may include Manual Lymphatic Drainage, scar and fibrosis work, techniques for cording or restricted tissue, gentle mobility-focused work, and support for areas of swelling, tightness, or altered sensation. Techniques are selected and adapted based on surgical timelines, tissue healing, precautions, and your comfort.
Treatment is gentle and precise, with ongoing communication throughout the session. When appropriate, you may also receive individualized home-care recommendations to support mobility, lymphatic health, scar care, or continued recovery between visits.
