A breast or chest cancer diagnosis sets off a carefully structured medical journey. Surgery, oncology care, reconstruction decisions, and rehabilitation all play essential roles in recovery. Yet for many women, healing continues long after formal treatment has ended.
For many women navigating breast cancer survivorship, insurance-based care ends before the body feels fully supported.
Recovery & Renewal at node & needle was created to meet patients in this exact space.

What typically happens after a mastectomy
After mastectomy or breast or chest surgery, most patients are referred to physical therapy or occupational therapy once they are medically cleared. This care is typically covered by insurance and plays a vital role in early recovery.
Physical and occupational therapy following mastectomy or breast reconstruction generally focus on:
Restoring functional movement and shoulder mobility
Supporting posture and strength
Addressing lymphatic drainage as it relates to swelling and daily function
Providing education for safe return to activity
This care is essential but time limited. Most patients receive a defined number of visits over a short period, until functional goals are met or insurance coverage concludes. At discharge, patients are typically instructed to continue self-care independently at home.
For some women, this transition is smooth. For others, lingering symptoms remain.
Where the gap appears
Even after successful surgery and rehabilitation, many women experience ongoing or delayed concerns that fall outside the scope or duration of insurance-based care. These may include:
Capsular contracture following implant-based reconstruction
Iron Bra Syndrome, marked by chest wall tightness or restriction
Post-Mastectomy Pain Syndrome (PMPS), including nerve-related pain or altered sensation
Axillary web syndrome (cording) affecting the arm, chest, or trunk
Edema or persistent swelling in the chest, trunk, or upper extremities
Lymphedema, whether early-stage or long-standing
Seroma or hematoma during healing phases
Scar restriction or fibrosis that develops over time
Fat necrosis or tissue changes following reconstruction
These experiences are common and do not mean something has gone wrong. They reflect the complex and evolving nature of healing after breast and chest surgery.

This care is:
Non-insurance based
Complementary to medical and rehabilitative care
Designed for survivorship and reconstruction phases

Our role is not to replace medical care, but to support the body as it continues to adapt after the healthcare system has stepped back.
How Recovery & Renewal supports ongoing healing
Sessions are individualized and may include:
Advanced lymphatic techniques to support natural drainage
Gentle, progressive scar and connective tissue support
Attention to post-surgical patterns, restrictions, and compensations
Nervous system–informed care to support comfort and regulation
Education that evolves with each stage of recovery
Care is guided by the client’s surgical history, current symptoms, and long-term goals, whether they are weeks, months, or years post-surgery.
Working alongside your existing care team
Recovery & Renewal is intentionally designed to follow insurance-based care, not compete with it.
Clients often seek this support:
